It's not confirmed yet, but all indications point to terrorism in the nine simultaneous subway and bus explosions that hit London's mass transit system during this morning's rush hour.
One has to worry that this may not be over. If the terrorists can hit London's subways and buses, what's to keep someone from doing the same this morning in New York, or some other major financial capital?
The news just reported that machine-gun armed Capital Police in Washington D.C. are now on patrol in that system, which is used by nearly 1 million people daily.
Here's to hoping this has gone as far as it will...
Update
The above was posted early this morning when few confirmations of what happened had been made. Since then we've learned that the number of explosions was four, and there's a hefty death toll. Tragic. Yahoo has a page dedicated to updated news here .
I'll add a note to this post to make it a bit more relevant to the PRSpeak blog: the tragedy itself has nothing to do with PR. In times like this (and unfortunately we've been through a few now) it's best to take a step back from what we in PR do on a daily basis. PAN folk are making sure to stay out of the way of reporters both here and abroad who are trying to cover a rapidly evolving situation. This isn't a time for pitches about 'enterprise' anything.
Maybe once this all calms down a little we can take a look at how PR firms balance the need to work for their clients with tragic world events that require an appropriate level of decorum.
